The Nicolet College Board of Trustees recently honored two Nicolet employees with 2018 Outstanding Service Awards for superior performance that advanced student learning, responded to community needs, and furthered the overall mission of the college. Receiving 2018 honors were Toni Van Doren, Workforce Development and Career Pathways coordinator, and Kelly Haverkampf, director of Institutional Effectiveness and Staff Development. Van Doren was selected for her exceptional skills in building career pathways for students in a number of different fields. Over the years, she’s become a recognized expert on the subject within the Wisconsin Technical College System, speaking at conferences and state meetings and serving on state and national training committees. At Nicolet in the past year Van Doren was instrumental in: - coordinating the Mechanical Maintenance Training Academy for select inmates from the McNaughton Correction Center. This resulted in students learning in-demand job skills and earning the Nicolet technical diploma in Mechanical Maintenance. - advancing the Jump! Start Entrepreneurial Training Program which provides job training opportunities for students with disabilities. - coordinating the Basic Heavy Equipment Operator course, giving students the skills training to enter the career field and to help area businesses meet workforce demands. “Toni regularly plays a lead role in collaborations involving internal and external partners, often bringing diverse groups and funding sources together for the benefit of the students and the College,” said Sandy Bishop, Nicolet dean of Workforce and Economic Development, and Chuck Kopp, Nicolet Business Development coordinator, in their nomination of Van Doren. Haverkampf received the honor for her extensive work to improve processes within the college. These efforts ultimately benefit students enrolled in academic programs as well as members of the general public looking to take advantage of other opportunities available at Nicolet. Especially noteworthy was Haverkampf’s leadership work on the college’s Strategic Enrollment and Persistence Plan. This initiative focused on creating a streamlined student experience, better supporting students in reaching their career goals, and ensuring academic programs are meeting student and community needs. “Without Kelly’s facilitation and leadership skills, this training to improve services would not have happened,” Erika Warning, Nicolet director of Enrollment, said in her nomination of Haverkampf. “Her ability to draw strategic connections across the college is very valuable and deserves recognition.” Photo cutline: Recipients of the 2018 Nicolet College Board Award are Toni Van Doren, center, and Kelly Haverkampf, who was unable to be in the photo.
