The Northwoods Pride Festival will return as an in-person event this year with workshops, entertainment, and special events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25, in the Lakeside Center at Nicolet College. The festival, sponsored by the Rainbow Hodags student club at Nicolet, will also include a drag show, with a special workshop a week prior from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 18, in the Nicolet College Theatre. Local performers of all levels of experience are invited to register for this workshop, which will be led by Nicolet Players Artistic Producer K. Woodzick (they/them) and other community members. Participants will have access to the Nicolet Players costume stock and wig collection, and the Nicolet Cosmetology Program is lending their support to the workshop as well. “With the popularity of television shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race, Dragula, and We’re Here, the art of drag has become a mainstream cultural phenomenon,” Woodzick shared. “Drag and theater are so closely related and the Nicolet Players is proud to support local artists of all genders in empowering them to create performances for Northwoods Pride.” Interested performers can sign up for the Drag Workshop by visiting nicoletcollege.edu/northwoodspride and clicking on the Drag Workshop & Show link. The festival will also feature a keynote speaker, food, and a resource fair. Details are available at nicoletcollege.edu/northwoodspride. “In the current cultural climate, it’s more important now than ever for everyone to show their support of the LGBT+ community,” said Woodzick. “We want folks from all walks of life to come and join this festival. There will be something for everyone!” Northwoods Pride Festival is hosted by Nicolet College Rainbow Hodags. Community volunteers help support the event. All proceeds and donations go towards LGBT+ student scholarships. The mission is to build trusting relationships and space for the LGBT+ community and to provide entertainment, interactions, and educational opportunities to celebrate the history, diversity, and acceptance of LGBT+ individuals in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, Woodzick explained.
