With awareness on the rise about mental health issues, one Nicolet College graduate and entrepreneur is putting together an effort to help ensure that all those who would benefit from mental health treatment get the care they need. On Saturday, Jan. 28, Sarah Wesenberg and her staff at Lotus Salon and Spa in Rhinelander will hold the Cut the Stigma event to raise funds for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northern Lakes Chapter. During the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the salon will offer free haircuts to anyone who makes a donation to the local NAMI chapter. Only walk-ins will be accepted as no reservations will be available. Snacks and refreshments will be served. Anyone making a donation will also be entered in a raffle for gift prizes. Wesenberg graduated from Nicolet College with a degree in Cosmetology in 2016 and opened the Lotus Salon and Spa in 2020. The business is located at 235 N. Brown St. in downtown Rhinelander. NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Started in 1979, the organization today is an alliance of more than 600 local affiliates that work in communities to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. Anyone in the Northwoods struggling with mental health issues is encouraged to contact the NAMI Northern Lakes Chapter at 715-420-1700 or by email at naminorthernlakes@yahoo.com More information about the organization is also available online at naminorthernlakes.org.
