Press Release Text:

The Nicolet College Foundation recently awarded its 2019 Friends and Partners Award to WXPR Public Radio. The independent station based in Rhinelander received the honor for its long-standing partnership with Nicolet and its continuing efforts to promote higher education in the Northwoods. “WXPR embodies the true spirit of friendship and partnership from which Nicolet Nicolet benefits immensely,” said Kate Ferrel, Nicolet executive vice president of Academic and Student Affairs, in nominating the station. “WXPR maximizes resources through strong and diverse partnerships and to build and strengthen the greater Northwoods community in the work they do every day.” Over the years WXPR has partnered with the college to bring numerous concerts to the Northwoods, organize the upcoming Project North Festival, co-sponsor the annual Sustainability Fair, and – perhaps most importantly – served as a media partner to inform the public about the numerous initiatives at the college and opportunities available to the public. “The in-depth reporting works to convey accurate information to the public and demystify many aspects associated with the higher education landscape,” Ferrel said. “This support maximizes Nicolet College’s reach and impact on the many Northwoods’ residents who may benefit from Nicolet College’s products and services.” In her nomination, Ferrel also noted the station’s numerous other partnerships with organizations and events in the Northwoods and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. “WXPR embodies the true spirit of friendship and partnership,” she said.
