Press Release Text:

Anyone interested in a career in childhood education or becoming a licensed teacher is invited to attend the upcoming Open House and Transfer Fair hosted by Nicolet College’s Early Childhood Education department. The event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, in the Northwoods Center on the Rhinelander campus. Students currently in the program will also be presenting their annual Portfolio Show at the same time. “This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a career in education to get a real comprehensive look at our program to see if it right for them,” said Diana Rickert, Nicolet Early Childhood Education instructor. “The Portfolio Show will give people a good idea of the types of projects we work on in class. We’ll also have a lot of great information available on how students can complete a two-year associate’s degree at Nicolet and then transfer to a four-year campus to earn a bachelor’s degree.” Nicolet’s Early Childhood Education program offers three different college credentials, starting with two short-term training certificates that culminate in students earning the two-year associate’s degree. “We see many of our students earn a technical certificate, use that to get a job in the field, and continue taking classes towards the associate’s degree,” Rickert said. “This way they’re getting great on-the-job experience, they’re earning money, and continuing with the training that will pave the way so they can advance in their careers.” Nicolet also has credit transfer agreements with University of Wisconsin campuses that pave the way to bachelor’s degrees, which are often required for individuals to work as teachers in public K-12 school districts. The Transfer Fair portion of the event will feature representatives from UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout, UW-Parkside, and UW-Superior. “Over the years we’ve had many students complete this path and are now enjoying successful careers as teachers, many right here in the Northwoods,” Rickert said.
